Karla received a B.Sc. in biomedical engineering in 2011 and an M.Sc. in electronics engineering in 2014, from Tecnologico de Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico. She is currently an electrical engineering graduate student at Notre Dame. Her research interests include nanoelectronic devices, tunneling transistors, optoelectronics, neural engineering, plasmonic sensing, biosensing, and bioinstrumentation. She has served as an IEEE Women in Engineering representative and as a founding officer of the IEEE-HKN Lambda Rho Chapter.
